Impact of this race
Bowland Ultra 10th Jan 2026

It’s a beautiful area.
By the time you finish this race we hope you’ll agree.
That’s why we want to ensure this race doesn’t do anything to damage that.
Environmental Impact
The Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a special place. Although often overlooked by it’s bigger and more popular neighbours, this wild and beauitiful landscape is well worth an explore.
That’s why we’ve created an ecological risk assesment, the results of which you will notice throughout the entry form and race briefings (in email and on race day). We want to encourage lift sharing through prizes and rewards as well as public transport with places to leave your stuff. We don’t ask you to bring your own mug to send business to the mug makers of Britain, but to make sure there isn’t a pile of single use cups left over. We haven’t yet been offered a major car sponsorship.
The route isn’t perhaps what a pure fell runner would design, but that’s because we want this race to be one that can run year after year and not steadily erode our precious peat lands, which are a major water and carbon sink.
Social Impact
This race is a not for profit enterprise. We don’t have anything against those who do it for money, but that’s not why we run. This race will primarily be raising money for Morecambe Bay foodbank. Morecambe is a lovely town with beautiful views across the bay and amazing people. It has a rich amd vibrant history and with the Eden project and redevelopments planned it has a bright future ahead. Yet sections of the town are amongst the most deprived in the North West and the country, with 1 in 4 children growing up in poverty in 2018. While the cost of living crisis has made it hard for many families, for some residents in Morecambe the crisis has made eating safe and sustaining meals impossible.
This race isn’t just about raising money though, we want to provide a great race for everyone. That’s why we accept all genders and non-binary entries and are following as many of the SheRaces guidelines as we can. If you notice anything that you think isn’t fair or equal, please tell us using the contact form.
